55 Chairmanship Candidates Emerge in APC Primaries for Lagos LG Polls
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully produced 55 chairmanship candidates for the upcoming July 12 Local Government elections in Lagos State, following party primaries held in Ikeja on Saturday. The event, overseen by the APC Electoral Committee, showcased a mix of consensus arrangements and delegate voting.
cbut elections were not conducted in Yaba and Mainland LCDAs due to pending litigations, leading to the absence of delegates in those areas.
Out of the total 57 expected candidates, 55 emerged, with four selected through consensus and affirmed by delegates, while 51 others contested and won through delegate voting.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, disclosed that 1,539 delegates participated across the councils, with each council represented by 27 voting delegates. He noted that although the process was largely peaceful and transparent, there were some grievances from aspirants in certain LGAs.

Discontent and Appeals:
While the process was largely smooth, NAN reports that some aspirants and their agents expressed dissatisfaction with the outcomes in a few areas. Mr. Ogala acknowledged the possibility of human errors and encouraged those aggrieved to formally file appeals with the APC Appeal Committee.
“The primary process was transparent and conducted in the interest of the party,” Ogala stated. “Any candidate who believes they were unfairly treated has the right to appeal, and we encourage them to use the proper channels.”
Councillorship Primaries Also Held:
In addition to chairmanship primaries, APC conducted councillorship primaries across the various wards in the state. These grassroots-level contests are key to shaping the structure and leadership of local governance.
As the July elections draw near, the APC’s candidate list sets the stage for a competitive political season. The party will now look to consolidate support across Lagos’ 57 councils to retain control and deliver on its promises at the local level.
