Kogi Government Vows Full Probe into Kotonkarfe Jailbreak, Warns of Internal Compromise

The Kogi State Government has launched a full-scale investigation into the jailbreak at the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, where 12 inmates managed to escape under suspicious circumstances. With one escapee already rearrested, the government is determined to uncover the truth behind the breach, warning that any internal compromise will not go unpunished.

In a strongly worded statement on Monday, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, rejected the notion that this was a mere jailbreak, citing clear signs of collaboration from within.

“The jailbreak theory is unacceptable to the Kogi State Government,” Fanwo declared. “There is undeniable evidence of internal compromise and coordination, which led to this unfortunate security breach. We are committed to getting to the root of this incident.”

Government’s Commitment to Security

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to coordinate with federal correctional authorities and security agencies to prevent future incidents. The government reaffirmed its longstanding support for federal security agencies, including providing logistics and essential resources to enhance their effectiveness.

“The fact that the inmates allegedly fled through the tower without causing structural damage raises serious concerns,” Fanwo stated. “This is not a mere escape—it suggests a well-orchestrated breach that must be fully investigated.”

Investigation and Security Measures

The state government has pledged to leave no stone unturned in ensuring all escapees are recaptured and those responsible—whether inmates or accomplices—are brought to justice.

One of the rearrested inmates is currently assisting security agencies with valuable information, shedding light on how the escape was executed and who may have been involved.

Call for Public Vigilance

Commending security agencies for their swift response, the Kogi government has urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.

“Anyone found harbouring an escaped inmate will be held accountable“Anyone found harbouring an escaped inmate will be held accountable“Anyone found harbouring an escaped inmate will be held accountable,” the statement warned.

Despite the alarming situation, the government reassured residents that there is no cause for panic.

“The state is fully in control. We urge citizens to go about their daily activities peacefully, knowing that security measures have been reinforced to safeguard lives and property,” Fanwo concluded.

As the investigation unfolds, all eyes are on Kogi State’s next move to restore order and accountability in the wake of this alarming security lapse.
