Osun Court Building Razed by Fire, Governor Adeleke Orders Urgent Probe
A devastating fire destroyed the Ilesa High Court 2 building in Osun State on Sunday evening, leaving behind charred ruins and critical questions. Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident.
Authorities suspect arson, as the fire engulfed key sections of the court complex. Sensitive case files, legal documents, and exhibits were lost in the blaze. The building also housed multiple courtrooms used by three judges, including Justice A. Aderibigbe of Court 1.
Governor Adeleke, in a statement issued by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, condemned the incident. He described it as a direct attack on the judicial system and a serious threat to democracy.
“Burning a court is an unjustifiable assault on justice. We must find the culprits and hold them accountable,” he said.
Although the state fire service responded to the emergency, the damage had already occurred before their arrival. Reports confirmed that critical documents related to ongoing court cases were destroyed.
To address the situation, the governor directed security agencies to intensify surveillance at all court buildings. He also asked the Attorney General and the Ministry of Works to begin immediate reconstruction of the affected facility.
Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation. According to the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, officers are working to uncover the cause of the fire. He confirmed that the warder’s room and an adjacent office suffered severe damage.
This tragic event has raised alarms among legal professionals and citizens alike. Many fear it could undermine the delivery of justice in the state.
Governor Adeleke reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law
