Labour Party Showdown: Nenadi Usman Slams Julius Abure, Initiates Disciplinary Action

The deepening crisis within the Labour Party (LP) has taken a dramatic turn, as Senator Nenadi Usman, Chair of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, launched a scathing attack on former chairman Barrister Julius Abure branding him an impostor and serving him a 24-hour ultimatum.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Usman didn’t mince words. She accused Abure of parading himself unlawfully as the party’s leader, despite overwhelming evidence of misconduct hanging over his head.

“Rather than dragging the name of the Labour Party through the mud and publicly attacking its leaders, Mr. Abure should be answering to the serious allegations of forgery and financial impropriety leveled against him,” Usman declared.

The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), now under Usman’s leadership, has set the clock ticking for Abure to explain himself or face disciplinary measures that could permanently sideline him from LP politics.

This latest development marks a new chapter in the party’s internal warfare, threatening to fracture its already fragile unity. While Abure maintains support in certain quarters, critics argue that his continued defiance is fueling unnecessary division at a time when the Labour Party should be consolidating its influence on the national stage.

Analysts say the coming days will be crucial. Will Abure defend his position or go down swinging? Either way, the battle for the soul of the Labour Party is far from over.
