As President Bola Tinubu prepares to visit Anambra State on Thursday, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rolled out a massive security operation, deploying 1,531 officers to ensure the safety of lives, property, and critical infrastructure throughout the state.
The deployment, which includes reinforcements from neighboring states such as Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Delta, was announced by the Anambra State NSCDC Commandant, Olatunde Maku, following a high-level security briefing held in Awka on Wednesday.
Maku assured residents that the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified operations across the state in preparation for the high-profile visit.
“We have scaled up covert surveillance, launched joint raids on known criminal hideouts, and increased patrols to boost public confidence,” Maku said. “Our goal is to create a secure environment for a smooth and successful presidential visit.”
The officers will be strategically positioned in key locations across the state, including airports, bridges, government buildings, markets, parks, power and telecom installations, and the popular Solution Fun City. The deployment will also include access control and crowd management along the President’s travel routes.
“NSCDC personnel will serve as a human shield to prevent crowd interference with the President’s convoy,” Maku added. “They’ll also be responsible for securing vital assets before, during, and after the visit.”
In addition to physical deployment, the Corps is emphasizing professionalism and inter-agency cooperation. Maku urged officers to remain disciplined, respectful, and collaborative in all engagements, reinforcing the Corps’ commitment to public safety.
He also issued a word of advice to Anambra residents: “Be law-abiding and peaceful as we welcome the President. Your cooperation is key to a safe and memorable event.”
The visit marks a significant moment for Anambra State, and security agencies are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that all goes smoothly.
