The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced that it will officially release the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results on Friday morning. According to a notice shared with The PUNCH in Abuja, the release will take place at JAMB’s National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja by 8:00 AM.
How Did Candidates Perform?
Ahead of the result release, JAMB shared some eye-opening statistics. Out of the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the exam, over 1.5 million scored below 200 which is often considered the average benchmark in the UTME, which is scored out of 400.
The exam tested students in four subjects:
Use of English (mandatory for everyone)
Plus three other subjects related to their intended course of study.
What the Government Is Saying
Reacting to the results, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the high number of low scores shows that the government’s strict anti-exam malpractice policies are working.
“The high failure rate in this year’s UTME is clear evidence that the government’s efforts to stop cheating during exams are now producing results,” he said.
