Kwankwaso Slams Defectors: “They Sold Out the Masses for Selfish Gains”
In a scathing address on Friday, the national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, lashed out at recent defections from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) branding them as acts of political betrayal rooted in greed and personal gain.
Speaking at his Miller Road residence in Kano before a crowd of loyalists from Takai Local Government Area, Kwankwaso did not mince words: “What happened in Kano South is not just betrayal it is political prostitution, plain and simple.”
The former governor was reacting to the high-profile defection of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, along with several federal lawmakers, who recently crossed over to the APC the same party they campaigned vehemently against in the last election.
“They abandoned the very movement and ideals that brought them into power,” Kwankwaso declared. “It’s not about ideology anymore it’s about stomach infrastructure.”
Rejecting the Masses for Self-Enrichment
Kwankwaso drew sharp contrasts between the voters’ loyalty and the lawmakers’ opportunism. According to him, voters in Kano South endured pressure, bribery attempts, and manipulation including offers of spaghetti, ₦200 notes, and cheap wrappers yet stood firm in their support for the NNPP.
“But those who were elected by the people’s sacrifice have now shamelessly defected for appointments, contracts, and political favors,” he said.
He labeled the move as “the highest form of political corruption,” saying these defections were not about service delivery or ideology, but personal advancement.
Corruption in Disguise
Insiders within the Kwankwasiyya movement allege that some defectors were lured with promises of immunity from past corruption allegations, business deals, and ministerial lobbying. The defections, critics say, are not just defections they are transactions.
“This is not a realignment; it’s an auction. The masses are being sold off for bags of rice and federal favors,” one party insider who asked not to be named told The Daily Courier NG.
A Warning and a Promise
Kwankwaso praised members who rejected the move to the APC and chose to remain with the NNPP, describing their stance as a “vote for integrity, not convenience.”
He assured his followers that history would vindicate those who stayed true to the movement, while those who jumped ship would face political irrelevance and public disgrace in the near future.
“Mark my words they will regret this betrayal. The people are watching. When the dust settles, they will not be remembered for service or vision, but for selling their souls,” he warned.
The Battle for 2027 Begins
Political observers believe the battle lines for 2027 are already being drawn. With defections shaking the NNPP, Kwankwaso appears set to restructure and relaunch the movement, possibly with eyes once again on the national stage.
The big question now is: will the betrayers prosper, or will the masses remember who stood with them when it mattered most?
