Wike’s Shadow and APC’s Fingerprints? Bala Mohammed Hints at Hidden Hands in PDP Crisis

ABUJA The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dropped a politically loaded hint, suggesting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may have a hand however indirect in the deepening crisis within the PDP.

Speaking to journalists after a high-stakes meeting of PDP governors and stakeholders on Sunday night in Abuja, Mohammed made veiled references to possible external interference. Notably, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike himself a polarizing figure within the PDP was present at the meeting, further thickening the political plot.

“We wouldn’t want to blame the APC for causing a crisis in the PDP, but they are likely to be the ones. We are not saying they are the ones,” Mohammed stated with political tact, hinting at sabotage without directly accusing the rival party.

The late-night parley, held at the Bauchi State Government Lodge, attracted key political heavyweights. In attendance were current governors from Osun (Ademola Adeleke), Plateau (Caleb Mutfwang), Oyo (Seyi Makinde), Adamawa (Ahmadu Fintiri), Enugu (Peter Mbah), and Zamfara (Dauda Lawal), among others.

Also present were political veterans such as former Senate President Bukola Saraki and ex-governors Babangida Aliyu, Adamu Muazu, Aminu Tambuwal, Sule Lamido, and Udom Emmanuel each with significant stakes in the PDP’s future.

The gathering comes as the PDP continues to grapple with internal fractures dating back to the build-up to the 2023 presidential elections. Much of the rancor stems from the controversial zoning of the party’s presidential ticket and the National Chairmanship to the North, a move that split the party’s base and leadership.

While Mohammed’s remarks stop short of making direct accusations, the subtext is clear: the PDP suspects strategic interference and infiltration perhaps subtle, perhaps overt by the ruling APC.

Observers believe the crisis may be deepened by the presence and role of Minister Wike, who has increasingly aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s administration despite being a PDP stalwart.

As Nigeria’s 2027 political horizon slowly takes shape, the question remains: is the PDP unraveling from within, or is it being carefully dismantled from without?
