Russia Snubs Global Ceasefire Plea, Bombards Ukraine Along Entire Frontline

Despite mounting international pressure and calls for peace, Russia has flatly rejected proposals for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire, choosing instead to intensify its assault across the entire Ukrainian frontline.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, Moscow has shown complete disregard for the global appeal, launching widespread attacks while diplomatic efforts hang in the balance.

“The Russians are completely ignoring the offer of a full and durable ceasefire starting on May 12. They continue to attack Ukrainian positions all along the frontline,” Sybiga wrote on X (formerly Twitter) following a virtual conference with Ukraine’s Western allies.

Europe Pushes, Putin Deflects

European leaders, growing increasingly frustrated with the Kremlin’s tactics, issued an ultimatum to President Vladimir Putin: halt hostilities or face a fresh wave of “massive” sanctions targeting Russia’s energy, banking, and financial sectors, including its central bank.

But instead of taking the peace route, Putin offered a counterproposal direct talks with Ukraine in Turkey this Thursday. Critics view this as a stalling tactic, while his military continues its aggression unchecked.

Drones, Damage, and Denial

Ukraine also reported a devastating drone assault overnight, with 108 drones launched by Russia just after a short-lived three-day truce ended. The Ukrainian Air Force successfully shot down 55 of them, but the remaining drones caused damage including a strike on a civilian freight train, injuring its driver.

This latest escalation casts doubt on Russia’s sincerity about peace and further underscores the humanitarian toll of the ongoing conflict.

Global Patience Wearing Thin

European officials are now warning Putin to stop “playing games” and take meaningful steps toward peace — starting with honoring the proposed 30-day ceasefire. Without it, leaders suggest, real negotiations to end the war may never begin.

As tensions escalate and diplomatic options dwindle, Ukraine remains under siege, bearing the brunt of a war that many hoped would have de-escalated by now. For now, peace remains a distant hope and the world watches, waiting for Moscow to change course.
