In a month marked by active engagement, professional recognition, and thought leadership, Engr. (Dr.) Bemigho Ofoeyeno, FNSE, FNICE, Vice-President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) for 2023 & 2024, made a significant national impact through a series of strategic appearances and addresses across the country.

Commencing with his participation in the prestigious “Build Right, Build Safe” Workshop held on June 19, 2025, in Enugu, Engr. Ofoeyeno served as Guest of Honour at the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) South-East Chapters’ event. His presence lent gravitas to discussions on infrastructure failures in Nigeria, where he advocated for resilient, safe, and sustainable civil works.
His thought leadership extended to the 1st International Conference on Innovation & Application in Civil Engineering Technologies (IACET-SD 2025), hosted by the Department of Civil Engineering, Akwa Ibom State University from June 18–19, 2025. Represented as keynote speaker, he delivered a presentation titled “Innovation in Infrastructure Development: The Challenges for Nigerian Engineers.”

“Innovation in sustainable infrastructure development refers to the application of new ideas, technologies, materials, and methods to design, construct, operate, and maintain infrastructure in ways that minimize environmental impact, enhance social equity, and promote economic efficiency. At the centre of all these innovations are the engineers—planners, designers, problem-solvers, and builders.” — Engr. Bemigho Ofoeyeno, IACET-SD 2025
His paper also highlighted the six pillars of innovation in infrastructure: Environmental Protection, Resource Efficiency, Social Inclusion, Economic Growth, Climate Change Mitigation, and Global Collaboration. He challenged stakeholders to overcome Nigeria’s pressing issues such as outdated engineering curricula, limited access to cutting-edge tools, lack of funding, and weak regulatory enforcement.

Beyond technical advocacy, Engr. Ofoeyeno joined fellow engineering elites in celebrating Engr. Emeritus Prof. Steven Odi-Owei during his 80th birthday, Annual Public Lecture, and official biography launch. He presented a portrait award and praised the honouree’s outstanding legacy in academia and national service.
As part of his human-capital development initiative, he launched a Career Advancement Webinar Series for young engineers, running July through September 2025. This free, certified training covers HSE, AutoCAD, Revit, Orion, and ProtaStructure, reinforcing his dedication to capacity building for Nigeria’s engineering future.

He also commemorated World Blood Donor Day (June 14), World Day to Combat Desertification (June 17), and International Day of the African Child (June 16) with impactful messages promoting health, education, and sustainability.

In his Democracy Day (June 12) address, Engr. Ofoeyeno called for justice, participatory governance, and institutional integrity, urging Nigerians to uphold democratic values for national progress.

The month concluded with a courtesy visit to NSE leadership and stakeholders, where he engaged past and present engineering professionals in fostering unity and collaborative momentum for national engineering growth.
As a respected Fellow of NSE and NICE and a visible national leader, Engr. (Dr.) Bemigho Ofoeyeno remains a trailblazer in promoting engineering excellence, empowering professionals, and positioning the engineering sector as a vital instrument for Nigeria’s sustainable development.
