The governor of Akwa Ibom has approved the allocation of N1 billion to supplement FG palliatives.
The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has approved the immediate payment of N1 billion as the first tranche of the state government’s donation to supplement the Federal Government’s palliatives package.

He also authorized the transfer of N2 billion as the second tranche for the payment of gratuities to retired teachers from both the state and local government sectors.

The governor of Akwa Ibom informed reporters on Wednesday that the delivery of palliatives to citizens would begin on Monday, September 4, 2023.

While reiterating his commitment to the One Project Per Local Government Area Initiative, Eno stated that the gesture was a fast measure to alleviate the situation hardships precipitated by the gasoline subsidy reduction.

“With the state government’s assistance and the 3,000 bags of rice and N2 billion received so far from the Federal Government, the state’s over 2,270 villages should be hopeful of receiving at least 50 bags of rice each,” he said.

“I am confident that each town will receive at least 50 bags. We will distribute to the Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, and Niger Delta communities, as well as all security services and anyone else who may be unable to travel to villages. They are not village people, rather they are Akwa Ibom residents.

We have approved an additional line of instructor gratuity. We have given it our approval to the local authorities as well as to the state. That amounts to two billion. That money comes from the state’s coffers.

“We intend to carry out one project per local government.” so that we can help ensure that our young people have work.”
Reacting to the protest by a segment of the state’s youths, The governor of Akwa Ibom Eno expressed sadness over the occurrence, saying that the state government has gathered intelligence on some individuals attempting to disrupt the state’s peace, and advised them to refrain from instigating the youth.

“Let us remember that Akwa Ibom belongs to all of us.” This state is calm, and we aim to keep pushing that narrative and doing everything we can to keep it that way.
