The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the murder of police officers who were ambushed while on a fact-finding mission in the Ughelli area of Delta State.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the incident occurred on February 23rd when officers embarking on a fact-finding mission were ambushed, leading to the deaths of six police personnel. Subsequent officers deployed on a rescue mission were also ambushed.

In a statement released on Saturday from Abuja, Adejobi revealed that the arrests were made possible through intensive investigative efforts by police operatives. Initially, five suspects were apprehended shortly after the incident, while an additional three were later arrested at different locations based on statements and cooperation from the first five individuals taken into custody.

The Force Public Relations Officer affirmed that the eight suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation into the murders. He emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that all those responsible for the killings and similar crimes are swiftly and decisively arrested and brought to justice.

Adejobi stated that the suspects would face prosecution once investigations are concluded, with credible evidence presented in court. He acknowledged the saddening loss of the officers who were diligently performing their duties to protect and serve the community, extending condolences to the families of the fallen personnel during this difficult period.

The police spokesman reiterated the Force’s resolve to ensure that the killers of their officers in this case and others are held accountable, asserting that “killers of our officers in this extant case and many others, have murdered peace and none of them will go unpunished.”
