Labour Unyielding: Nationwide Strike Looms Over Fuel Subsidy Removal”

In an unrelenting stance, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has affirmed its determination to proceed with a planned two-day warning strike in protest against the federal government’s handling of the fuel subsidy removal issue. The strike is a direct response to what the Labour Unyielding sees as the government’s failure to address the challenges arising from the subsidy removal.

Comrade Gabriel Amari, the State NLC Chairman, reiterated this position during an exclusive interview with DAILY POST on Monday. The labor union contends that the federal government has not only abandoned negotiations but has also failed to implement several resolutions agreed upon in previous meetings.

The organized labour unyielding discontent first manifested on August 2 when it staged protests condemning what it described as anti-people policies under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Amari expressed grave concern over the hardships that Nigerian workers have endured since the government’s removal of the fuel subsidy. He emphasized that the impending strike action would bring all offices and institutions to a standstill, causing significant disruptions to the nation’s economy. This, he noted, is a direct consequence of the federal government’s seeming indifference to the pleas of the masses.

He further urged workers in the state to strictly adhere to the directives issued by the labour union, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights of Nigerian workers.

“Workers in Kogi State are fully prepared for the forthcoming two-day warning strike as directed by our national secretariat. We are resolute in our stance until the federal government addresses the fuel subsidy removal issue adequately,” Amari declared.

The prevailing sentiment among Nigerian workers is that the pervasive suffering in the country necessitates this strike action. However, the final outcome of this labour dispute remains uncertain, with the potential for an indefinite work stoppage if the government does not heed the demands of the workers. For more news follow thedailycourierng
