Police Arrest Kano Anti-Corruption Chief

Nigerian police from the Inspector General of Police office arrested Muhuyi Magaji, Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, on Friday in a complex legal dispute involving high-stakes property seizures.

The arrest centers on an ongoing investigation related to alleged financial misconduct by Bala Muhammed Inuwa, former Managing Director of Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited, who is accused of diverting over N4 billion in public funds.

Magaji is currently detained at Zone One police headquarters in Kano, with the Inspector General of Police ordering his immediate transfer to Abuja headquarters. His relatives and legal counsel have been denied access to him.

At the heart of the controversy is a property seizure potentially linked to Abdullahi Ganduje, APC National Chairman. Inuwa claimed the seized assets belonged to the former governor, escalating tensions between anti-corruption agencies, law enforcement, and political figures.

The incident highlights the complex and contentious nature of corruption investigations in Nigeria, with multiple institutional actors competing for jurisdictional control and interpretation of legal provisions.

Police Public Relations Officers remained unavailable for immediate comment, leaving many questions about the arrest’s precise motivations unresolved.

The developing story suggests deeper political undercurrents in Kano State’s governance and anti-corruption mechanisms.
