ADC Chairman David Mark Denies Endorsement of Peter Obi, Atiku for 2027 Presidential Race

Amid growing speculation over the 2027 presidential election, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally disavowed reports claiming it has endorsed any candidate, particularly Labour Party’s Peter Obi or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

The interim National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark, issued a firm denial in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja. The former Senate President emphasized that the party remains independent and has not entered into any alliance or made commitments to support any individual or party.

“We have not endorsed any aspirant,” Mark said unequivocally. “The ADC has neither settled on a preferred candidate nor formed any political alliance at this stage. Our current focus is on building a viable and inclusive platform that resonates with the aspirations of the majority of Nigerians.”

He further reiterated that the party’s core priority is national unity and delivering a credible, people-centered alternative in 2027.

“We don’t want this great ship called Nigeria to sink,” Mark warned. “If we fail to rise now, we may all go down with it.”

The statement also addressed internal discord following allegations by the ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, who accused the interim leadership of covertly supporting Atiku Abubakar. Mark dismissed the claims as baseless, insisting that ADC belongs to all members equally.

“I do not own this party more than any other member. Every Nigerian must feel a sense of ownership in what the ADC stands for,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the political atmosphere continues to heat up as Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, alleged on Tuesday that unnamed political actors are plotting to unseat the president ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Onanuga defended the Tinubu administration as “the most focused and transformative in Nigeria’s history,” accusing detractors of working to undermine ongoing reforms.

He referenced a remark made by Emir Sanusi in 2022: “If anybody tells you reform will be easy, don’t vote for him.”

As political posturing intensifies across party lines, both the ADC and the presidency appear keen on managing narratives and public perception ahead of what is shaping up to be a high-stakes 2027 election.
