Amaechi’s Grievances with Buhari: APC Chieftain Akindele Weighs In

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu, Ayekooto Akindele, has shed light on the possible reasons behind the lingering rift between former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and his former principal, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Akindele, a well-known social media influencer, suggested that Amaechi’s grievances with Buhari stem from the latter’s refusal to endorse him during the APC presidential primary election in 2022. According to Akindele, despite Amaechi’s significant contributions to infrastructure development in Buhari’s hometown of Daura, including the establishment of a Transportation University and the procurement of a chieftaincy title, the former president did not throw his weight behind Amaechi’s presidential ambition.

Akindele wrote, “Two reasons he will never forgive Buhari: despite procuring a chieftaincy title in Daura and allocating a Transportation University there, Buhari didn’t impose him on the APC. Chai, this is unforgivable.”

The APC chieftain further alleged that after Amaechi resigned as minister to focus on his presidential campaign, he suffered a “shameless” defeat in the primaries. Akindele claimed that Amaechi later sought to return to his ministerial position but was met with indifference from Buhari, who reportedly responded with vague dismissals.

Akindele’s remarks come in the wake of Amaechi’s recent comments praising former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom he described as the last Nigerian leader to create a thriving middle class. Speaking at a recent event, Amaechi credited Obasanjo with building an economy that generated jobs and fostered the growth of a robust middle class, a legacy he believes subsequent administrations have failed to replicate.

The ongoing tension between Amaechi and Buhari highlights the complex dynamics within the APC and the lingering fallout from the 2022 presidential primaries. As political analysts continue to dissect these developments, Amaechi’s public admiration for Obasanjo has further fueled speculation about his political future and his relationship with the APC leadership.

For now, Amaechi’s grievances with Buhari remain a topic of discussion, underscoring the intricate interplay of loyalty, ambition, and disappointment in Nigeria’s political landscape.
