Atiku’s Aide Slams Akpabio’s Wife Over Alleged Comments on Natasha’s Harassment Claim

Phrank Shaibu, the media aide to Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly criticized Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, over her reaction to the sexual harassment allegations leveled against her husband. The remarks came after Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, accused Akpabio of making sexual advances toward her.

In an interview with Arise TV on Friday, Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that the Senate President had attempted to proposition her on two separate occasions, suggesting that the seating arrangements in the Senate were strategically manipulated to frustrate her legislative duties. She likened her experience to a student who fails an exam due to refusal to comply with inappropriate demands from a lecturer.

In her rebuttal, Mrs. Akpabio held a press conference at her Abuja residence, where she dismissed the allegations as unfounded and accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of fabricating the story for personal gain. She later filed a legal suit against the Kogi Senator, demanding a staggering N250 billion in damages for defamation.

Shaibu, however, was quick to condemn Mrs. Akpabio’s remarks following her legal action. In an X (formerly Twitter) post, he questioned her response, particularly her assertion that Natasha’s husband, High Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, should have personally contacted her to discuss the alleged incident, given their supposed friendship. Shaibu found it absurd that Mrs. Akpabio suggested that the failure to reach out for a personal discussion somehow invalidated Natasha’s claims.

Shaibu’s post read: “So, Madam truly believes that High Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, the revered Alema of Warri Kingdom, should have personally reached out to her to lament that the ‘Uncommon Transformer’ harboured indecent intentions toward his wife? That he didn’t call to say your hubby wanted to sleep with his wife makes the account of @NatashaAkpoti false? If you have no valid argument, what happened to silence?”

He further pointed out that Natasha was not the first woman to accuse the Senate President of similar misconduct, implying that there might be a pattern of such allegations against him.

The controversy continues to spark discussions within Nigerian political circles, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the serious allegations. The case remains ongoing, with both sides digging in for what promises to be a protracted legal battle.
