Atiku’s Legal Team Begins Examination as Chicago University Discloses Tinubu’s Academic Records to PDP Candidate
Chicago State University, located in the United States of America, has released President Bola Tinubu’s academic records to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who also serves as the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This release of documents by CSU came in response to a court order from the United States District Court in the Northern District of Illinois, which mandated the university to provide these records.
Atiku’s Legal Team is currently reviewing the documents obtained from the university and may decide to make them public in due course.
Regarding Atiku Abubakar’s third request, which sought the release of a copy of the diplomas issued in 1997, the university stated that the certificates matched the format of the Tinubu replacement dated June 27, 1997. The relevant documents have been located and provided by CSU, but the students’ names on these diplomas have been redacted to protect their privacy. The university also furnished diplomas awarded to other CSU students in 1979 as requested by Abubakar.
Tinubu had previously claimed to have lost his original certificates but presented a replacement for his CSU diploma to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2023 presidential election.
On September 19, a US magistrate judge named Jeffrey Gilbert granted the request and ordered CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records within 24 hours. However, the president filed an appeal against the order in an attempt to block it.
Atiku’s Legal Team intends to use the CSU academic record as part of his appeal at the Supreme Court, where he is challenging Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election.
