Second Federal Executive Council (FEC): President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to preside over the second Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting today at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. This was confirmed by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, in a statement to journalists on Sunday night.

Key Updates on the Meeting

The upcoming meeting is expected to address various approvals previously granted by the president to different ministries. It will also welcome the three ministers recently confirmed by the Senate, bringing the total number of ministers in attendance to 48.

Notably, Vice President Kashim Shettima will be absent from today’s meeting as he is currently representing the president at the 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in China.

Shift in Meeting Frequency and Approach

There appears to be a shift in the frequency of FEC meetings, with the government opting for a Monday schedule, departing from the previous administrations’ practice. Under former President Muhammadu Buhari, regular FEC meetings were held weekly on Wednesdays.

Additionally, the meeting may not follow a weekly pattern going forward, allowing ministers ample time to focus on their assigned tasks and deliver effectively on their responsibilities. Senior officials emphasized that while the meeting will be held, its format may not strictly adhere to the conventional practice of weekly contract award announcements.

President Tinubu’s Approach to Second Federal Executive Council (FEC)

According to Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, President Tinubu has a different vision for the functions of the Federal Executive Council. The second Federal Executive Council (FEC) highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the ministers and the president, emphasizing a non-traditional approach to the weekly meetings.
