BREAKING: Boko Haram Slaughters Soldiers in Borno Attack Nigeria’s Rotting Security System Exposed Again

Another dark day for Nigeria’s military as Boko Haram terrorists overran a military base in Borno State, leaving several soldiers feared dead, armoured tanks destroyed, and ammunition carted away by insurgents who seem to operate with absolute impunity.

The attack, which took place late Saturday night at the 153 Task Force Battalion in Marte Local Government Area, marks yet another humiliating defeat for Nigeria’s armed forces and yet another instance of the federal government’s failure to confront the worsening insecurity engulfing the nation.

“So many of our men are feared dead. We’ve lost communication with the base,” a senior army officer disclosed. “They burnt our equipment and escaped with weapons. It’s a total breakdown.”

Abandoned to Die: Soldiers Without Weapons, Strategy, or Leadership

This tragedy is not just about terrorism it is a brutal indictment of Nigeria’s corrupt leadership and decaying military infrastructure. Despite trillions allocated to security annually, soldiers are routinely sent into battle with outdated weapons, insufficient ammunition, and little to no strategic support.

While top military brass enjoy luxury, field troops many of whom haven’t been paid in months are deployed like cannon fodder to face well-armed, well-funded terrorist groups.

“It’s a death sentence to serve on the frontlines,” said one source. “We go in with courage, but no equipment. The terrorists know we’re under-equipped they come in waves, and we can’t stop them.”

Saturday’s attack is a mirror of similar devastating assaults in recent months. Just weeks ago, 22 soldiers and a commander were killed in an ambush in Malam-Fatori, Abadam LGA. With each new attack, the federal government issues recycled condolences, promises investigations, and then returns to business as usual.

Government Apathy: Empty Promises, Endless Funerals

For over a decade, Boko Haram and its deadly offshoots like ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) have unleashed mayhem across the North-East. But while the insurgents have evolved into a powerful war machine, the Nigerian government has remained stagnant, prioritizing politics and propaganda over genuine reforms.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari once infamously declared that Boko Haram had been “technically defeated.” But reality continues to expose that lie. If anything, the terrorists have become bolder, more organized, and more lethal, while the Nigerian military becomes more demoralized, under-resourced, and betrayed by the very government they swore to serve.

Billions of dollars in defense budgets remain unaccounted for, while allegations of arms procurement fraud and diversion of military funds are swept under the rug. Soldiers have cried out on numerous occasions about their lack of basic combat gear, poor welfare, and unending deployments with no mental health support.

“We are losing this war not because of the enemy’s strength,” one soldier lamented, “but because our leaders don’t care.”

A Failing State? When Terrorists Outgun the Nation

The repeated overrunning of military bases by terrorists raises uncomfortable questions: Who is truly in control of Nigeria’s territories? If the government cannot protect its own soldiers armed personnel trained to fight what hope is there for defenseless civilians?

Entire communities in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa remain vulnerable, with many villages razed and survivors crammed into overcrowded, underfunded IDP camps. Millions have been displaced. Children grow up surrounded by war, trauma, and despair. And all the while, those in power live in fortified mansions in Abuja, detached from the horrors on the ground.

Lip Service and Global Shame

Despite support from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and international donors, the Nigerian government continues to fail in protecting its people. The cycle of terror, death, and denial goes on.

This is not just a military failure it is a failure of leadership, accountability, and national conscience. While soldiers bleed and die, while communities are shattered, and while terrorists celebrate yet another victory, the political class continues its dance of deception, comforted by sirens, convoys, and bulletproof excuses.
