The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, has firmly dismissed rumors circulating online that she has resigned from her position. The speculation, which began after an unsigned circular dated February 17, 2025, surfaced on social media, claimed that Meranda had stepped down from her role. However, her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, categorically refuted the claims on Wednesday, February 19.

Ajiboye described the rumor as “a lie from the pit of hell,” emphasizing that the Speaker remains in office and is carrying out her duties as usual. He stated, “There is no truth in the story. The Speaker is in her office as we speak, and there is no plan for her to resign. We do not know where this story is coming from.”
The rumor had caused tension within the Assembly, prompting 36 out of the 40 lawmakers to pass a vote of confidence in Meranda. The lawmakers, who expressed solidarity with the Speaker, dismissed any plots to force her resignation and reinstate the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa. During a session in the hallowed chambers, members chanted in support of Meranda, reaffirming their commitment to her leadership.
This development comes amid heightened political activity in the Lagos State House of Assembly, with Meranda’s leadership being described as a new era for the legislative body.
