CAN Congratulates Catholic Church on the Election of Pope Leo XIV
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has extended warm congratulations to the Roman Catholic Church on the election of Pope Leo XIV as the new leader of the global Catholic community.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN described the election of Pope Leo XIV as a joyful and historic moment for Catholics around the world.
“This is a significant milestone that brings renewed hope and joy,” the statement read. “CAN celebrates with the Catholic Church on this momentous occasion and looks forward to a future marked by peace, justice, and inclusiveness under the new Pope’s leadership.”
Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, was elected on Thursday by the College of Cardinals during a solemn conclave at the Vatican. His election follows the passing of Pope Francis. After two days of voting, the new Pontiff was introduced to the world from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, where he was met with loud cheers from thousands of faithful gathered in the square.
CAN expressed confidence in the new Pope’s ability to lead with wisdom and compassion, praying that his tenure would be filled with divine guidance, strength, and good health.
“His emergence symbolizes renewal for the Church,” Archbishop Okoh added. “We trust that Pope Leo XIV will continue the legacy of unity and spiritual leadership, helping to guide God’s people in righteousness.”
As celebrations continue around the world, CAN joins the Catholic faithful in welcoming Pope Leo XIV and prays for a blessed and impactful pontificate.
