Daniel Bwala Informed Atiku Before Meeting With Tinubu, Clarifies Relationship

Daniel Bwala, spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, recently met with President Bola Tinubu sparking criticism he betrayed his former principal. However, Bwala clarified on Sunday that he informed Atiku of the meeting beforehand.

Appearing on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, Bwala stated “I informed Atiku Abubakar I was going to see the President. After I had seen the President, I informed him (Atiku) that I had just seen the President and he replied me that, ‘Thanks Daniel for notifying me’.”

Bwala dismissed accusations that supporting Tinubu’s administration meant backstabbing Atiku, saying “It’s absolute nonsense for somebody to say because I said I will support President Bola Tinubu therefore I betrayed Atiku.”

Bwala was an extremely vocal supporter of Atiku’s campaign in the contentious 2023 presidential polls. His recent declaration of support for Tinubu, whom he intensely criticized during the elections, therefore came as a surprise.

However, Bwala maintains he has been transparent with Atiku throughout the process and still respects their relationship. He did not disclose details of what was discussed at the meeting with Tinubu.

Bwala also revealed that there was no promise of an appointment from the President. This suggests his offer of support is based on principle rather than personal gains.

As a formerly staunch ally now backing his previous rival, Daniel Bwala continued clarifications point to an attempt to preserve his standing across partisan lines. His meeting with Tinubu was controversial but he insists it does not signify abandoning Atiku.
