E-Money Regains Freedom After EFCC Interrogation Over Naira Abuse Allegations
Popular Lagos businessman and socialite, Emeka Okonkwo, better known as E-Money, has regained his freedom following hours of interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged Naira abuse and defacing of foreign currencies.
E-Money was reportedly picked up by EFCC operatives on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos and taken to the commission’s Abuja headquarters for questioning. The arrest came amid allegations that the celebrity sprayed United States dollars in public—an act that contravenes the Foreign Exchange Act.
A source within the EFCC confirmed the arrest, saying, “On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for Naira abuse and defacing of foreign currencies. Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
Despite repeated efforts, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale could not be reached to confirm the release as calls and messages went unanswered as of press time.
However, E-Money, via his verified Instagram account @iam_emoney1, celebrated his release on Tuesday evening, posting a video from his home with the caption:
“No tension, everywhere good. I see all your love and support. God bless you all.”
The popular gospel tune “Thank You for Saving Me, Thank You My Lord” played in the background of the video, which showed him seated regally.
Fellow celebrity and nightlife promoter Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, also reacted on Instagram. Sharing a photo of E-Money, he wrote:
“My brother don fall out. To God be the glory.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Cubana had expressed optimism that the situation would not diminish E-Money’s reputation, writing, “This will only make you stronger, just like our Rolls Royce.”
