Kano Deputy Governor Apologizes to NSA Ribadu Over Emirship Controversy

In a surprising turn of events, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo, has publicly apologized to Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for implicating him in the ongoing emirship dispute in Kano.

The controversy erupted when Gwarzo alleged that Ribadu played a role in facilitating the return of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to the state by providing him with private jets. However, Ribadu vehemently denied these accusations and threatened legal action against Gwarzo.

On Monday, during a press conference at the Government House in Kano, Gwarzo backtracked on his previous statements and offered a sincere apology to Ribadu. He acknowledged that the Kano State government had been “misled” into believing that the National Security Adviser was involved in the emirship crisis.

“The Office of the National Security Adviser has refuted the allegations and distanced themselves from what we have alleged,” Gwarzo stated. “We have to acknowledge that we have been misled into believing that the NSA was behind the happenings along this line.”

Kano Deputy Governor Gwarzo expressed shock at the initial mention of Ribadu’s name in the plot to impose the deposed emir and extended his apologies on behalf of both himself and the Governor of Kano State. He assured Ribadu of their continued support and cooperation in discharging his duties as the National Security Adviser.

This public apology comes as a significant development in the ongoing emirship dispute in Kano, which has been a source of tension and controversy in recent times. By acknowledging their mistake and offering a sincere apology, the Kano State government has taken a step towards resolving the conflict and restoring trust with the federal authorities.

The emirship dispute in Kano has been a complex and sensitive issue, with various stakeholders and political interests at play. While the Kano State government’s initial allegations against Ribadu may have been made in haste or based on misinformation, their willingness to rectify the situation and take accountability is commendable.

As the situation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how this apology will impact the ongoing efforts to resolve the emirship crisis in Kano. However, open communication, transparency, and a commitment to upholding the rule of law will be crucial in reaching a peaceful and lasting resolution.
