Kebbi Governor Dismisses Coalition Rumors, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC

Birnin Kebbi – Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has categorically denied any involvement in a purported political coalition linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing the reports as baseless and politically motivated.

In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, the governor accused unnamed “mischief makers and attention seekers” of attempting to sow discord and distract him from his mandate.

“I will be the last man standing in APC. I can’t and will never even harbour the thought of leaving my party to join any coalition belonging to Atiku or anybody,” the statement read.

Governor Idris emphasized his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the platform through which he ascended to power, stating that his political allegiance remains non-negotiable.

Key Points:

Allegiance to APC: Idris declared that he was “made by APC” and sees no reason to abandon the party that brought him into leadership.

Denial of Defection Rumors: The governor dismissed the coalition speculation as fictional, aimed at stirring political tension in the state.

Focus on Governance: He reiterated that his priority remains the development of Kebbi State across all sectors, warning political detractors to desist from distractions.

Warning to Political Jobbers: He labelled those spreading the rumors as “political jobbers” and “imaginative schemers” seeking relevance.

The rebuttal comes amidst growing speculation about new political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several politicians reportedly exploring alternative platforms. However, Idris’s firm stance suggests he is not swayed by the political realignments currently unfolding at the national level.

Observers say the governor’s swift reaction may be an attempt to curb internal party dissent or silence potential challengers questioning his loyalty amid a shifting political landscape.
