Mass Defection Hits PDP as Thousands Join APC in Esit Eket
In a major political shake-up in Akwa Ibom State, thousands of members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Ward 9 in Esit Eket Local Government Area have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The mass defection comes amid speculations surrounding Governor Umo Eno’s possible move to the APC. Leading the defectors was Pastor Eseme Udi, a well-known philanthropist and former chairmanship aspirant. Udi expressed confidence in the APC’s vision, pledging to work towards the party’s dominance in the state.
“Our people have been marginalized for too long,” Udi said. “This is not just a political shift—it’s a liberation. I believe APC offers real hope for development, justice, and inclusion in Akwa Ibom.”
Udi also commended Governor Umo Eno for, in his words, “charting the right political path” and expressed optimism that the state would benefit more under the APC.
APC Welcomes New Members
The APC leadership in Esit Eket warmly welcomed the new members. Ward Chairman, Mr. Samuel Akpama, urged the defectors to be humble and dedicated, noting that party benefits come through unity and cooperation.
Chapter Chairman Mr. Daniel Assam went a step further, describing the defection not as a mere political switch, but a “movement.”
“This is not just decamping. It’s a political movement. We appreciate your decision and thank the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for his role in strengthening the APC in Akwa Ibom.”
He emphasized the need for discipline, respect for the party’s constitution, and the importance of consultation with party leadership before pursuing any individual interests.
Political Stakeholders React
Dr. Usoro Akpanuso, former lawmaker for Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency, called the defection “a divine move,” underscoring its significance.
“Ward 9 is politically strategic. The mass defection from PDP to APC is historic. It’s something only God could orchestrate.”
Dr. Akpanuso also praised Senate President Akpabio for his role in driving APC’s growth in the state.
Adding his voice, Prince Enobong Harry, a former PDP State Youth Leader and now APC Deputy Leader in Esit Eket, welcomed Pastor Udi, describing his defection as a gain for the entire ward.
“Ward 9 is lucky. Pastor Udi is not only a leader but a doer. The facelift of the ward’s party office the fresh paint, new signboard, and flags is his handiwork.”
Harry encouraged all members, new and old, to unite for the common goal of building a stronger, more prosperous community under the APC banner.
