Mass Exodus Rocks Kaduna APC Amid Corruption Allegations Following El-Rufai’s Resignation

The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is witnessing a mass exodus of members in what appears to be a protest against the deep-seated corruption and internal power struggles plaguing the party. This wave of defections comes in the wake of former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s resignation and defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), exposing cracks within the APC’s leadership and governance.

Multiple resignation letters obtained by DAILY POST on Monday reveal that numerous party loyalists, particularly those affiliated with El-Rufai’s administration, are abandoning the ruling party. Their decision is widely seen as a rejection of the alleged corruption, favoritism, and betrayal that have tainted the APC’s credibility in the state.

Former Commissioners Denounce APC’s Corrupt Practices

Among those who have resigned are former Commissioner for Local Government, Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani, and former Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Mohammed Baba. In their respective resignation letters, they cited the party’s deviation from its founding principles and an entrenched culture of corruption that has alienated genuine reformists.

Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani’s letter expressed frustration over the party’s failure to reward loyalty and hard work, stating:

“With the hatred and disdain shown to us by the leadership of the party we worked hard to nurture, it has become compelling to seek another platform in our desire to bring development and prosperity to our dear people.”

This statement reflects growing discontent over how APC leaders allegedly manipulate party structures to enrich themselves and maintain power at the expense of transparency and good governance.

Similarly, Hafsat Baba condemned the party for straying from its original mandate, noting:

“The party has lost its sense of direction and purpose and has deviated from its founding principles of justice, peace, and unity. Continued association with the party as it is currently constituted is against my principles.”

This assertion echoes the sentiments of many APC members who feel that corruption, nepotism, and self-interest have overridden the party’s commitment to the people.

El-Rufai’s Exit: A Political Earthquake for APC

El-Rufai’s defection has sent shockwaves through Kaduna’s political landscape. Once a staunch APC figure, his departure signals a deep-seated dissatisfaction with how the party is being run. Under his leadership, Kaduna witnessed infrastructural development, but accusations of financial mismanagement and selective governance marred his tenure. His move to the SDP suggests a strategic attempt to distance himself from the APC’s growing scandals and political decay.

The defections of his close allies reinforce the belief that the APC leadership, both at the state and national levels, has become a breeding ground for corruption, where party stalwarts manipulate power to serve their interests rather than the electorate.

Kaduna APC’s Dismissal of the Crisis

Despite the mass resignations, the Kaduna APC leadership has downplayed the crisis, insisting that the party remains strong. However, political analysts argue that such a stance is merely an attempt to mask the deepening divisions and public disillusionment within the party.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the APC in Kaduna faces an uphill battle to regain public trust. If the party fails to address these concerns, it risks further defections and a potential collapse of its political dominance in the state.

The unfolding drama in Kaduna is a reflection of a broader national issue—where ruling parties prioritize personal gains over good governance. The question remains: will the APC reform itself in time, or will corruption continue to erode its foundation?
