Nasarawa PoS Operators Launch Task Force to Combat Fraud
The Nasarawa State chapter of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMMBAN) has inaugurated a Joint Task Force (JTF) aimed at addressing fraud and criminal activities associated with Point of Sales (PoS) operations in the state.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday at the AMMBAN State Secretariat in Karu Local Government Area. During the event, the state Chairman, Noah Enesata, highlighted the association’s commitment to ensuring secure and efficient financial services through PoS operators across the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State
Mandate of the Joint Task Force
Enesata stated that the JTF will collaborate with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to eliminate fraud within the PoS sector. He expressed confidence that the team would achieve its objectives in the shortest possible time, thereby restoring trust in agency banking.
The newly inaugurated task force includes the following members:
Chairman: Simon Emeka-Kenneth
Secretary: Salisu Ibrahim
Publicity Secretary: Thani Godwin-John
Mobiliser Secretary: Victor Orih-Daniel
Members: John Enemona-Amenson and Shedrack Ilani
Objectives of the Task Force
Enesata explained that the primary goal of the JTF is to combat fraudulent activities that have led many to distrust PoS transactions.
“Some people are now scared of using PoS machines for transactions due to fraudsters exploiting agency banking. Cases have been reported where armed robbers and kidnappers use PoS machines for illegal activities such as theft and ransom payments,” he said.
He emphasized that every PoS operator is required to have a physical location to ensure accountability and transparency.
“PoS operators are an extension of the banking system and are expected to serve their communities with sincerity, even when banks are closed,” he added.
The AMMBAN chairman also assured that the association would adhere to all guidelines and directives of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to enhance the security and efficiency of PoS services.
Commitment of the Task Force
In his acceptance speech, the JTF Chairman, Simon Emeka-Kenneth, expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and his team. He pledged to tackle fraud among PoS operators and ensure a safer environment for customers.
“Our duties will include enforcement, crime reporting, investigation, public awareness, and media engagement. We will ensure that customers feel secure conducting transactions with PoS agents,” Emeka-Kenneth said.
He also lamented the scarcity of cash in Nasarawa State and appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to collaborate with the CBN to address the issue.
Tackling Fraud and Ensuring Compliance
The JTF chairman underscored the importance of enforcing CBN directives and AMMBAN guidelines, noting that fraudulent activities in the sector must be eradicated.
“Part of our assignment is to enforce compliance and make the environment safe for business. This will help rebuild trust between customers and PoS agents in the state,” he stated.
Dignitaries in Attendance
The inauguration was attended by notable figures, including the AMMBAN Chairman of the Abuja branch, Jile Modupe-Janet; Nasarawa State Treasurer, Danjuma Umar; and representatives from local government chapters of AMMBAN.
With the launch of the Joint Task Force, AMMBAN aims to restore confidence in PoS operations and ensure that financial services are delivered securely and efficiently across Nasarawa State.
