Niger helicopter crashes are unavoidable in counterterrorism operations – NAF

Mishaps are unavoidable in counter-terrorism operations, according to the Niger Air Force.

According to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), casualties, errors, and crashes are occasionally unavoidable for all military organizations engaging in counterinsurgency and counterterrorism operations.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, made the announcement in Abuja on Wednesday.

Gabkwet was responding to a video clip circulating on social media supposedly portraying the wreckage of the crashed NAF MI-171 helicopter with the bodies of victims at Chukuba Village in Niger State’s Shiroro Local Government Area.

According to him, it was not in the NAF’s character to respond to such accusations, particularly those made by terrorists.

“With increased levels of air operations caused by an expanded fleet, the likelihood of air mishaps and accidents becomes unavoidable and inevitable for a variety of reasons,” he explained.

Gabkwet stated that the NAF has intensified its aviation operations over the previous eight years in an effort to counter the evil activities of terrorists and criminal elements in Nigeria.
