NNPP Disowns Kwankwasiya, TNM Groups, Warns Against False Claims

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has formally distanced itself from the Kwankwasiya group and The National Movement (TNM), cautioning them against misrepresenting themselves as part of the party’s leadership and membership.

In a strongly worded letter dated March 20, 2025, and made available to Vanguard, the NNPP emphasized the termination of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it previously had with both groups, which ended in 2023. The party asserted that any claims suggesting an ongoing affiliation were misleading and unacceptable.

The letter, signed by NNPP’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, alongside the National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, was also copied to the Inspector General of Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party reminded the public that the MoU, signed ahead of the 2023 presidential election, was purely an electoral arrangement. Under the agreement, the Kwankwasiya Movement, led by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and TNM, led by Elder Buba Galadima, had utilized the NNPP’s platform for the election, with Kwankwaso emerging as the party’s presidential candidate.

However, the NNPP formally terminated the agreement in July 2023, a move that sparked resistance from the groups. Despite the termination, members of these groups allegedly continued to operate under the NNPP’s banner, disregarding the official decision. This led to the expulsion of several individuals for anti-party activities.

Reiterating its stance, the NNPP’s letter stated: “Please refer to our earlier letter of 28/7/2023, wherein we, the NNPP, duly communicated to you our withdrawal from the Memorandum of Understanding previously entered into with the Kwankwasiya group and TNM.

“It has, however, come to our attention that you still falsely present yourselves as an integral part of the NNPP leadership and membership.

“You must immediately desist from this fraudulent and misleading posturing. The structure and leadership of the NNPP, as of July 28, 2023, have fully reverted to its original founders and legitimate leaders.”

The party warned that any further attempts by these groups to operate under its name would not be tolerated, urging them to cease misleading the public.

The development underscores the deepening internal rift within the NNPP and highlights ongoing tensions in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
