Northern Youths Disown Planned National Protest, Call for Calm and Dialogue

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has firmly distanced itself from the planned “Take-It-Back” national protest, urging Nigerian youths to reject violence and instead pursue peaceful, lawful means of expressing their concerns.

In a statement issued by NYCN President, Isah Abubakar, the group emphasized its commitment to youth development and national unity. Abubakar acknowledged the frustrations among young Nigerians but warned that protests could escalate tensions and threaten national peace.

“We understand the grievances driving these protests,” the statement read. “But at this critical time, Nigeria needs calm, dialogue, and patience—not actions that may deepen instability.”

The NYCN referenced the outcomes of previous demonstrations, such as the #EndSARS protests, which were marred by violence and destruction after being hijacked by hoodlums.

Reaffirming its position, the Council called for constructive engagement with the government and other stakeholders to ensure the voices of Nigerian youth are heard through appropriate channels.

“We urge our fellow youths to champion change through unity and meaningful dialogue, not street protests,” the statement added. “Let’s work together to build a peaceful and inclusive Nigeria where every voice matters.”

The NYCN concluded by calling on all young Nigerians to support efforts to address national challenges through peaceful collaboration.
