NSCDC Detains Officers Over ₦5.2 Million Extortion Allegation

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained officers allegedly involved in the ₦5.2 million extortion of a traveler en route from Ado-Ekiti to Akure. The directive followed orders from the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who called for an immediate probe after the case gained public attention.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, condemned the actions, calling them a violation of the Corps’ ethics and professional standards.

“These actions are unprofessional and unacceptable,” Audi emphasized, promising firm disciplinary measures.

Officers Moved to Abuja, Investigation Underway

The alleged officers have been transferred to the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja where they will remain in detention pending a full investigation by a disciplinary committee.

The Commandant General stated that any officer found guilty would face sanctions in line with Public Service Rules, reinforcing the agency’s stance on transparency and accountability.

Commitment to Ethics and Public Confidence

The Corps urged the public to remain engaged by reporting misconduct and assured that no citizen should fear harassment or extortion from security personnel.

“We remain committed to integrity, and we will not shield anyone involved in wrongdoing,” Audi stated.
