Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), claimed Wednesday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors forwarded the names of ten cabinet nominees to President Bola Tinubu for appointment.
After being sworn in by President Tinubu, the former Rivers State governor held his first press conference.
He also promised to clean up the mess in Abuja, stating that normality must be restored to the FCT by all means necessary. He stated that he was not assigned to the Federal Capital Territory Abuja to carry out vendettas against political opponents.
Using the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an example, the Federal Capital Territory minister stated that he would not be biased in penalizing anyone, party, or organization that has violated the master plan of the country’s capital city.
“I don’t care what you think.” Regardless of how you feel or where you came from, my job is to get Abuja to where it needs to be. I’ve come to turn things around in Abuja. That is the task assigned to me, and I intend to complete it.
He ruled out the idea of the PDP penalizing him for accepting Tinubu’s appointment, stating that the PDP governors had proposed ten people to the President for appointment as ministers.
The minister, who is still a PDP member, stated that partisan politics would not be allowed to disrupt his operations in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
It turns out that the issue of which party’s flag to fly in his office will be irrelevant to him.
“I will fly all parties’ flags if that is the problem, but I was appointed to fix problems in the FCT, not to fly political party flags.”
Wike emphasized the importance of restoring security to the Federal Capital Territory, saying, “So, the issue of security is relevant, and we have the President’s directive to do the needful.” Market cannot exist in every location. It is not good for security, and we cannot tolerate it. We cannot have motor parks everywhere. I don’t care how you feel or where you come from; my job is to get Abuja to where it should be.”
Wike called it “ridiculous” that people imagine he will go after his adversaries’ buildings. We’ve moved past that point, and I’m not here for political vendettas. Some say I’ll go to PDP if they don’t have C of O; if they don’t have it, they don’t have it.”
He also expressed displeasure with the city of Abuja’s sanitation, adding, “Look at the refuse everywhere.” Those you are paying what are they doing with the money for refuse collection?” He inquired.
In addition, the minister stated that his administration in the Federal Capital Territory “will talk to herdsmen to address the issue of cattle rearing in the city.” Check more news
