President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Olukoyede’s term is renewable for four years in the first instance, subject to Senate confirmation. This decision comes almost four months after the suspension of the former EFCC chief, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Ola Olukoyede’s appointment followed the resignation of Abdulrasheed Bawa, as confirmed by a statement from the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

About Ola Olukoyede: Ola Olukoyede is a lawyer with more than 22 years of experience, specializing in regulatory compliance and fraud management. He brings extensive expertise to the EFCC, having served as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman from 2016 to 2018 and as the Secretary to the Commission from 2018 to 2023. This experience makes him a suitable choice for the Chairman’s position.

In a related appointment, President Tinubu also named Mr. Muhammad Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC. Hammajoda’s term is renewable for five years in the first instance, subject to Senate confirmation. He is a public administrator with a background in public finance management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Master’s in Business Administration from the same university. His career includes teaching at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, and roles in the banking sector, including positions at the defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.

The new leadership of the EFCC has been tasked with justifying the confidence placed in them. They are expected to play a pivotal role in the fight against corruption through reformed institutional frameworks, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
