Lagos Blue Line Rail commences operations, Sanwo-Olu rides.
The long-awaited commercial operations of the Lagos Blue Line Rail Mass Transit System have begun.
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was the first passenger to board the train on Monday when operations commenced.
The governor boarded the Lagos Rail train at the Marina terminal and traveled to Mile 2.
Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, stated on Thursday that the Lagos Rail would begin commercial operations on Monday, September 4.
Akinajo further stated that Governor Sanwo-Olu would be the first passenger on the train during its debut journey.
Lagos’s more than 20 million residents face constant traffic bottlenecks, forcing disgruntled motorists and commuters to spend hours stuck in traffic, but the new service is projected to significantly reduce travel times.

According to Lagos state officials, a journey that earlier took more than two hours will now take only 15 minutes.
The second phase of the train project is slated to begin later this year, and when completed, the metro is expected to handle approximately 500,000 passengers each day, according to officials.
