Era of Exporting Raw Gold and Lithium President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared that the days of exporting raw gold, lithium, and other minerals have come to an end. He emphasized that numerous local companies have already adapted their business strategies to align with this new approach, urging others to do the same.

Speaking at the eighth edition of the Nigerian Mining Week organized by the Miners Association of Nigeria, Tinubu’s administration implemented a policy mandating the value addition to mineral resources before their exportation. This move was aimed at curbing the significant losses incurred through the export of unprocessed mineral commodities.

Era of Exporting Raw Gold and Lithium The Minister of Solid Mineral Development, Mr. Dele Alake, echoed similar sentiments at the event held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), highlighting the impending conclusion of the exportation of raw materials.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, the President stated, “This administration has hit the ground running with remodeling the former Ministry of Mines and Steel Development into the Ministry of Solid Minerals and Steel Development. The policy will ensure that the youth in the country are meaningfully absorbed in economic activities, empowering them while honing their skills.”

He highlighted the country’s immense opportunities in critical mineral value chains and the recent geological exploration efforts that have unveiled vast high-grade lithium resources across multiple states in Nigeria.
