The Nigerian Labour Congress in Kano State initiated a two-day warning strike in protest of the Nigerian government’s decision, led by Bola Tinubu, to remove fuel subsidies. The strike, which began as early as 5 am on Tuesday, resulted in the shutdown of government offices and various facilities across the state.
The Nigerian Labour Congress in Kano State Ado Riruwai, the Union State Vice Chairman, led the enforcement of the strike and confirmed the shutdown of government offices and facilities. He also mentioned that the power sector and banks would join the protest. Additionally, efforts were made to prevent flights from taking off at the airport.
Riruwai stated, “We have shut down all power sector. Banks are not operating. We heard a flight took off this morning from the airport; we are heading down there to ensure no flight takes off from the airport. All government offices are under key and lock.”
Among the facilities affected was the Kano Electric Distribution Company (KEDCO) head office.
The NLC had previously announced its intention to undertake the two-day warning strike as a response to the widespread suffering and impoverishment caused by the removal of fuel subsidies, which has affected citizens across the country. For more news visit thedailycourierng for News Updates.
