The Obi-Datti Ticket and Its Legacy

Obi-Datti: Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was the vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 Nigerian elections, has confidently stated that his party would defeat both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in any future election.

Obi-Datti expressed full confidence in the abilities of Peter Obi, who was the LP’s presidential candidate. During a recent TV interview, Datti said he is not intimidated by the prospect of taking on the APC again, as the ruling party did not receive 60% of the votes that the LP garnered in the Federal Capital Territory during the last elections.

He asserted that in a true democracy, it is the power of the people that prevails, not military force or violence that the people fear. Datti boldly claimed that whenever there is another election, the LP will emerge victorious, accusing authorities of having to “twist the constitution” and “change the meaning of English” to declare the APC winners previously.

Obi-Datti went further to insist that, in his view, the Labour Party actually won the 2023 general elections outright. He questioned what the current APC government has achieved, alleging that election technology was disabled and results were returned manually in a manipulated process that subverted the constitution and distorted language itself.

Comparing the LP’s current position to that of the CPC party before the 2015 elections, Datti claimed the LP is in an even stronger place now. He urged people to observe the failures of worsening insecurity, economic decline, and aggravated corruption, warning of an alleged scheme to potentially dismember Nigeria into six autonomous zones beyond 2027 as a way to “run away” from having to explain the failures.
