Tinubu Campaign Organisation Urges Urgent Peace Amid Rivers Political Crisis

Amidst the escalating political crisis in Rivers State, the Tinubu Campaign Organisation (TCO) has called for an immediate ceasefire among the warring factions, urging key political figures to prioritize governance and the welfare of the people.

In a statement released on Monday, TCO’s National Coordinator, Joshua Ohioma Ilevbare, expressed deep concern over the protracted conflict, warning that the power tussle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister Nyesom Wike, alongside the divided state House of Assembly, has crippled governance and subjected residents to undue hardship.

“We strongly appeal to Governor Fubara, Minister Wike, and the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to set aside their differences and embrace peace in the interest of the people,” the statement read.

Escalating Tensions and Governance Paralysis

The rift between the governor and the minister has led to a series of legislative and administrative deadlocks, stalling critical development projects and creating an atmosphere of political instability. TCO condemned the situation, stating that such a prolonged dispute threatens the state’s socio-economic progress.

“It is imperative that the governor, as the duly elected leader, is accorded the respect and authority his office commands,” the organisation stressed.

Urgent Call for Legislative Cooperation

TCO further urged the Rivers State House of Assembly to permit Governor Fubara to re-present the 2025 budget proposal without obstruction, emphasizing that essential infrastructure and social programs should not suffer due to political conflicts.

The organisation also called for adherence to the Supreme Court ruling on local government elections, urging all stakeholders to respect judicial directives and ensure a smooth democratic process.

Presidential Intervention and the Path to Stability

Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his prompt mediation efforts, TCO encouraged him to maintain his leadership in resolving the crisis, underscoring the importance of long-term political stability in Rivers State.

Additionally, the group appealed to prominent regional organizations, including the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and the Ijaw Youth Forum (IYF), to assume a neutral stance and facilitate reconciliation among the aggrieved parties.

As tensions remain high, the call for dialogue and compromise grows more urgent, with observers hoping that peace will soon return to the embattled state.
