The suspect was neutralized outside Beam Hall, where the shooting originated. Among the victims, one person sustained gunshot wounds and was in stable condition, while four others were hospitalized for panic attacks. Two police officers incurred minor injuries during the search for additional victims on campus.

Sunrise Hospital Trauma Center received three patients from the shooting, according to trauma medical director Chris Fisher. A reunification center for families unable to contact their loved ones was established at the campus’s North Hall.

President Joe Biden addressed the incident in a statement, decrying the “epidemic of gun violence” and urging Congress to take further action. The President called for an assault weapons ban and universal background checks, emphasizing the need for more comprehensive measures.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman described the news as “tragic and heartbreaking,” while UNLV President Brian Sandoval expressed deep sympathy for the victims’ families, calling it an “unimaginably sad and shocking day for our entire state.”

As the community grapples with the aftermath, UNLV announced the closure of the campus for the week, with further decisions pending on whether to reopen on Monday.
