Donald Trump criticized George Clooney following his appearance on CBS’s 60 Minutes Sunday. Trump called Clooney a “second-rate movie star” and “failed political pundit” in a late-night Truth Social post.
During the interview, Clooney discussed his Broadway debut in “Good Night and Good Luck” where he plays journalist Edward R. Murrow. He also addressed his controversial New York Times op-ed from July 2024 that called for President Biden to exit the presidential race.
“I was raised to tell the truth,” Clooney explained about his decision to publish the piece shortly after headlining a $28 million Biden fundraiser. “I had seen the president up close for this fundraiser, and I was surprised.”
Trump claimed Clooney “dumped [Biden] like a dog” after the debate and later supported Kamala Harris “under orders from the Obama camp.” Trump also accused 60 Minutes of dishonesty in a previous Harris interview.
In his interview, Clooney discussed press freedom concerns, noting: “When the judiciary and the executive and the legislative branches fail us, the fourth estate has to succeed.” He referenced ongoing legal battles between news networks and the Trump administration.
