The concessionaires of Onitsha River Port, Universal Elysium Consortium Limited, scored a significant milestone when they formally received their first barge at the port one year after taking over operation of the port.
According to Dr. George Nwangwu, the managing director, it began receiving barges on August 16th, 2023.
The crew of the Onitsha River Port was credited with handling the barge expertly.
He explained that the barge that came at Onitsha Port was carrying a shipment of tiles from Ajaokuta. The managing director further stated that moving forward, it is anticipated that this will happen every week since the consignees of the goods will now transport 600 tons of tiles to Onitsha and return 600 tons of clay to Ajaokuta each week.
