VDM Slams Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid for Flaunting Luxury Cars Amid Worsening Economic Crisis

Prominent and controversial social media commentator, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has stirred public debate after sharply criticizing Nigerian music icons Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid for flaunting luxury cars worth billions of naira during a time of significant economic hardship in the country.

In a viral Instagram video released on Thursday, VDM condemned the trio’s recent car acquisitions, describing them as tone-deaf and insensitive to the struggles of everyday Nigerians.

The criticism comes in the wake of Burna Boy’s much-publicized purchase of the new McLaren Sienna, reportedly worth a staggering N3.5 billion, making him the first African to own the exclusive vehicle. Just hours after the news broke, Davido was said to have acquired the 2026 Mercedes Maybach SL 680 for N1.2 billion, while Wizkid had previously made headlines for buying a luxury car valued at N1.7 billion earlier in the year.

VeryDarkMan, who is known to have a personal relationship with Davido, took aim at the superstar in particular, questioning his contributions to his home state of Osun and accusing him of leveraging his fan base without giving back meaningfully.

“Yesterday I saw the news that Burna Boy bought a N3.5 billion car. The same yesterday, Davido bought a car of over N1 billion. This isn’t new they’ve been doing this,” VDM said in the video.

“The question I have for Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido is simple: Don’t you read the room? Don’t you see the state of the country you’re from? I know you’re not the government, but you have a responsibility. Davido, you’re my guy, but what can you honestly beat your chest and say you’ve done for the people of Osun State, your own hometown?”

VDM further accused the stars of prioritizing personal luxury over community development, adding that their extravagant purchases send the wrong message, especially to young Nigerians who idolize them.

“What is your contribution to Nigeria’s growth? Because you’ve gained so much from this country, and from your fans. But what have your fans really gained from you? The last time we saw you in Osun, it was when your uncle was running for governor and you were seeking votes. What have you done since then that directly impacts the youth?”

The video has since sparked widespread discussion online, with opinions divided. While some defended the artistes’ right to enjoy the fruits of their labor, others echoed VDM’s sentiments, calling for greater social responsibility from Nigeria’s elite entertainers.

As Nigeria battles inflation, rising unemployment, and deepening poverty, questions about the role of celebrities in national development are becoming more urgent. VDM’s comments may be controversial, but they reflect a growing frustration among citizens who feel abandoned by both politicians and public figures in their time of need.
