PDP Crisis: Bode George Calls Out Atiku, Wike, and Demands Resolution
Chief Bode George, a senior chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a member of the party’s Board of Trustees, has issued a stern rebuke to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the ongoing turmoil within the opposition party.
Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday, George described the crisis within the PDP as deeply troubling, arguing that the party is being dismantled by personal ambitions rather than a collective vision. He emphasized that both Atiku and Wike are culpable in the party’s current disarray, stating that their actions have undermined the PDP’s cohesion and effectiveness as an opposition force.
A History of Discord
Tracing the root of the crisis to the PDP’s 2023 national convention, George alleged that both leaders had engaged in political miscalculations that have since crippled the party’s unity. “Both Atiku and Wike have committed hara-kiri,” he declared, using the term metaphorically to describe the self-inflicted damage caused by their actions.
George further criticized party members who attempt to shift the blame to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that such diversions only mask the real problems. “Throwing tantrums and accusing APC is an excuse. We must sit down, all sides of the divide, and confront the truth. Enough of this nonsense,” he asserted.
A Call for Accountability
In proposing a solution to the crisis, George urged PDP leaders to establish a high-powered investigative committee to dissect the origins of the internal strife. He stressed that any member found guilty of severe infractions should be sanctioned accordingly.
“We must set up a committee to x-ray the mess that began on convention day and resolve it decisively. Anyone guilty of serious misconduct must face the consequences,” he insisted. “Political parties are not personal fiefdoms; they are governed by rules and regulations. If you refuse to abide by these, then you have no place in the party.”
The Way Forward
George’s remarks underscore the urgent need for the PDP to undertake internal reforms to salvage its credibility ahead of future elections. His call for discipline and unity within the party highlights the broader challenge facing Nigeria’s opposition politics—balancing personal ambition with collective progress.
As the crisis continues to fester, it remains to be seen whether Atiku, Wike, and other key stakeholders will heed the call for reconciliation or allow their differences to further weaken the PDP’s political standing.
