Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, has announced the release of the schoolchildren who were abducted from the Kuriga community in Chikun Local Government Area. In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account in the early hours of Sunday, the governor expressed relief and gratitude for the safe return of the captive students.

Governor Sani extended special appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his unwavering commitment to prioritizing the safety and security of Nigerians, particularly in ensuring the unharmed release of the abducted Kuriga schoolchildren. Throughout the ordeal, the governor revealed that he had frequent consultations with the President, who shared the pain, provided comfort, and worked tirelessly to secure the children’s safe return.

The abduction occurred on March 7 when bandits launched an attack on the Kuriga community, invading both the primary and secondary schools. Sani Abdullahi, a teacher at the Government Secondary School Kuriga, had initially reported that 287 students were missing following the attack. However, the governor did not specify whether all the abducted students were freed in this latest development.

Governor Sani extended his gratitude to Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, and the Nigerian Army for their efforts in facilitating the release of the schoolchildren. He acknowledged the exemplary leadership of Ribadu, with whom he spent sleepless nights strategizing and coordinating the operations of the security agencies, ultimately leading to this successful outcome.

The governor also commended the Nigerian Army for demonstrating courage, determination, and commitment in degrading criminal elements and restoring security in the affected communities. He expressed appreciation to all Nigerians who fervently prayed for the safe return of the schoolchildren, describing the day as a joyous occasion.

The release of the Kuriga schoolchildren marks a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and safeguard the lives of innocent civilians, particularly vulnerable children, from the scourge of banditry and kidnapping. The collaborative efforts of the federal and state governments, security agencies, and the broader Nigerian populace underscore the importance of a united front in addressing such grave security challenges.
