EDO PDP CHALLENGES ELECTION RESULTS, QUESTIONS INEC’S EVIDENCE STANCE
ABUJA – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has escalated its legal battle over the recent gubernatorial election, challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) resistance to presenting electoral documentation.
PDP State Chairman Anthony Aziegbemin criticized INEC for blocking the submission of 153 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines during the election tribunal.
“Is it not strange?” Aziegbemin told journalists. “INEC certified these documents, yet now opposes their presentation in court.”
The legal dispute focuses on alleged irregularities in the February election, with PDP candidate Asuerime Ighodalo contesting the results. Witness testimonies primarily come from collation and ward agents, highlighting potential systematic issues in vote counting.
INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo have formally objected to the BVAS machine evidence, promising future explanations.
The case represents a critical examination of Nigeria’s electoral integrity, with potential implications for future electoral dispute resolution.
