Team Nigeria concluded their impressive campaign at the 13th African Games in Ghana, securing the second position on the medals table. The Nigerian contingent amassed a remarkable haul of 120 medals, comprising 47 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze medals across 25 sporting disciplines.

Weightlifting emerged as Nigeria’s most productive sport, contributing a staggering 32 medals to the overall tally, including 16 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze medals. Athletics followed closely, with the Nigerian team capturing 22 medals in various track and field events.

In athletics, Tobi Amusan etched her name in history by claiming her third consecutive African Games gold medal in the women’s 100-meter hurdles. She further solidified her dominance by anchoring the women’s 4×100-meter relay team to a gold medal finish. Ese Brume defended her crown in the women’s long jump, while Chukwuebuka Enekwechi reigned supreme in the men’s shot put event.

The wrestling contingent delivered an exceptional performance, with Blessing Oborududu and Odunayo Adekuoroye leading the charge, contributing 11 medals to Nigeria’s tally. The boxing team enjoyed a remarkable day, securing an impressive eight gold medals, while the arm wrestling squad added 13 medals to the country’s medal haul.

Egypt topped the medal standings with an impressive 189 medals, including 101 gold, 46 silver, and 42 bronze medals. South Africa secured the third position with 106 medals, comprising 32 gold, 32 silver, and 42 bronze medals. Algeria and Tunisia rounded out the top five nations on the medals table.

The 13th African Games served as a platform for Nigerian athletes to showcase their talent and determination on the continental stage. Their outstanding performances not only brought pride to the nation but also highlighted Nigeria’s prowess in various sporting disciplines. As the baton is passed to Cairo, Egypt, for the next edition of the Games in 2027, Team Nigeria’s achievements in Ghana will undoubtedly serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for future successes.
